In North Carolina, a shot was fired at the family home of House candidate Pat Harrigan last month, with no one injured, police said.

At least one shot was fired at the North Carolina home of a U.S. House candidate’s parents last month, and no one was injured, police and the candidate said on Twitter Thursday.

The shooting happened at the home of the parents of Pat Harrigan, a Republican and owner of a firearms manufacturer who recently ran for North Carolina’s 14th District seat against Democratic state Sen. Jeff Jackson.

On October 18, a shooting was reported at the home of the Harrigan family in Hickory, North Carolina, according to a Hickory police report. The shooting, which damaged a laundry room window, was reported to police the next morning, the report said.

The home belongs to Harrigan’s parents, and Harrigan’s children were inside at the time, according to a Carolina Journal report that Harrigan linked. a tweet Thursday.

The Hickory police report reveals little, and doesn’t say anything about a motive or whether investigators have identified a suspect. Hickory police declined to comment further.

Although police have not cited a motive, Harrigan’s tweet appears to refer to the shooting as “political violence.”

In a tweet linking to the Carolina Journal’s report on the shooting, Harrigan wrote that his opponent’s policies are causing “horrendous crime,” including political violence.

“My mission is a better economy, less inflation and safe streets. Bullets and death threats are not enough to throw this Green Beret off that mission,” said the US Army Special Forces veteran. the tweet he reads

Emails and calls to CNN seeking comment from his representatives Thursday and Friday went unanswered.

A representative for Jackson pointed to CNN several Twitter posts in which Jackson addressed the issue on Friday.

“Yesterday I heard about an event that happened three weeks ago. It appears that someone, who has not yet been identified, fired a shot at my opponent’s parents’ home,” one of Jackson’s messages. he reads. “It was an absolutely violent act and I condemn it in the strongest possible terms.”

When asked if the FBI was investigating the shooting, the FBI’s Charlotte office said the office cannot confirm or deny the existence of any investigations.

Reports of the shooting come amid a tense political climate in the US ahead of Tuesday’s general election, heightened by last week’s attack on the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. In that attack, a man is accused of breaking into the couple’s San Francisco home on October 28 and assaulting Paul Pelosi, causing injuries including a fractured skull.

Also, in recent days, a Chicago man has been accused of making violent threats against the Republican candidate for governor of Illinois.
