Red Bull Salzburg 1-2 Chelsea: the Blues have reached the last 16 of the Champions League

Mateo Kovacic scored his fifth goal for Chelsea in all competitions, his 197th for the club.

Two stunning goals from Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz earned Chelsea victory away to Red Bull Salzburg in their Champions League clash and sent Graham Potter’s side through to the last 16.

Midfielder Kovacic produced an unstoppable left-footed finish from 18 yards before leveling Junior Adamu after a wonderful pass from Maximilian Wober.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was denied four times by Salzburg goalkeeper Philipp Kohn, and Jorginho brilliantly cleared a header off the line by Adamuk.

However, Havertz ensured Chelsea joined Premier League side Manchester City in the knockout stages with a superb curling finish before forcing Thiago Silva to clear Strahinja Pavlovic off the line.

Chelsea have 10 points from five games in Group E, four ahead of second-placed Red Bull Salzburg with a game to go.

Potter’s side will be confirmed as group winners – and thus through to the last-16 draw on November 7 – unless Dinamo Zagreb beat Croatia’s AC Milan on Tuesday (20:00 BST).
