ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Team 2, Perth
Zimbabwe 130-8 (20 overs): Williams 31; M Wasim 4-24
Pakistan 129-8 (20 overs): Shan 44; Race 3-25
Zimbabwe won by one run

Pakistan’s World Cup hopes suffered further damage with Zimbabwe’s one-run defeat in Perth.

An inspired performance by Zimbabwe’s bowlers saw Pakistan finish on 129-8 to win by 131 runs.

Shan Masood looked set to get Pakistan out of trouble before he was stumped against spinner Sikandar Raza on 44, who took 3-25.

It was Zimbabwe’s first win outside the first round of the Men’s T20 World Cup.

Needing three off the last ball to win, Shaheen Afridi managed just a single and was run out trying to come back for a second run that would have secured the equaliser.

Pakistan are winless after two matches, Even the first outing against India ending in a tense defeat.

The result takes Zimbabwe third behind India and South Africa in Group Two, while Pakistan fifth.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Zimbabwe struggled against the fiery Pakistan bowling, with Sean Williams’ only individual score of 31 from 20 overs.

Mohammad Wasim took 4-24 and leg-spinner Shadab Khan took 3-23.

But Pakistan lost openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan early and slipped to 36-3 before rebuilding from behind with a 52-run partnership between Shan and Shadab.

But when Shadab and Haider fell in consecutive balls from Ali Raza, the momentum shifted to Zimbabwe.

In a chaotic end, bowlers Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava bowled with great discipline at the death, Mohammad Nawaz’s six and four pulling back the equation in Pakistan’s favour.

But Brad Evans responded by catching Nawaz at mid-on off the penultimate ball to end Pakistan’s hopes.
