The White House says DeSantis and Abbott’s sending of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard and DC is a “cruel and thoughtful political projection.”

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Thursday denounced the Republican administration. Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott send migrants to Martha’s Vineyard and Vice President Kamala Harris’ residence in DC as a “cruel and thought-provoking political forecast.”

Jean-Pierre accused the governors of Florida and Texas of using migrants as “political pawns” and said their actions were “shameful … irresponsible and just plain wrong.”

“The fact that Fox News and not the Department of Homeland Security, the city or local (non-governmental organizations) warned about a plan to leave migrants, including children, on the side of a busy DC street makes it clear that this is just a cruel, premeditated political mistake,” Jean told them. -Pierre to reporters at a White House conference.

DeSantis sent two planes carrying migrants to Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday night, his office said. Abbott says his state deliberately sent two busloads of migrants to Harris’ headquarters in the nation’s capital and they arrived Thursday morning. An estimated 50 migrants arrived in Martha’s Vineyard on two planes on Wednesday, according to Massachusetts state Sen. Julian Cyr, the Democrat who represents the area. Dozens of immigrants were left standing on the sidewalk and grass outside the US Naval Observatory in Washington on Thursday morning.

The governors’ actions, both fierce critics of the Biden administration, are the latest moves by Republican governors to transport migrants to liberal cities and states to protest what they say are inadequate federal efforts to secure the southern border.

Jean-Pierre said it was “very worrying” to find out where the migrants were being taken and what they would be given on arrival.

“The kids that Gov. Abbott abandoned on Martha’s Vineyard, the kids that Gov. DeSantis abandoned, you know, they deserve better. They deserve better than being left on the streets of DC or leaving Martha’s Vineyard,” said Jean-Pierre, who blamed Abbott for mistakenly sending migrants to Martha’s Vineyard.

Jean-Pierre said: “What they are doing is an illegal trick, it is a policy. And it’s really just a lack of respect for humanity. It doesn’t give them any dignity… it’s just cruel.’
