West Ham United 1-0 Silkeborg: Manuel Lanzini’s penalty earns Hammers a place in the last 16

West Ham have won eight of their last 11 games in all competitions

West Ham sealed their place in the last 16 of the European Conference League after defeating Silkeborg to maintain their 100% win record in Europe this season.

Manuel Lanzini’s penalty, after keeper Nicolai Larsen brought down Michail Antonio, ensured the Hammers were a game away.

Last season’s Europa League semi-finals were dominated by Algeria winger Said Benrahma and Spain midfielder Pablo Fornals, both of whom came close to extending their lead against the Danish visitors.

West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola forced a fine save to keep out Soren Tengstedt in the second half.

With one game to go, David Moyes’ side can’t catch up at the top of Group B.

They have 15 points from five games, nine more than second placed Silkeborg.

West Ham’s final group game is away to FCSB, who are bottom of the group with two points, in Romania on November 3 (20:00 GMT). At the same time, Silkeborg entertain third-placed Anderlecht, who have five points.
